Moments

I keep stumbling upon beautiful short films and I feel the need to share them. Here's another one.

Radiolab presents: Moments by Will Hoffman. This film is a celebration of life that was inspired by David Eagleman's book, Sum.

Little Big Berlin

This video is amazing, I just had to share it! The entire video was filmed in the city Berlin. It looks like a miniature city, doesn't it? It almost looks fake. Especially the train part is great!

A description from the director:
I dedicate this film to Berlin where I have been living for 19 years now. While the architecture of Berlin is stunningly beautiful, only its inhabitants make Berlin the unique city that it is. In every corner there is something new to discover. And the best thing to do is to film it.

Filmed with my beloved Sony HC9. Edited with Sony Vegas Pro 9. The miniature effect is called tilt-shift, which originates from a particular lens that was used to photograph architecture. The miniature effect is a by-product of that. It can also be achieved by digital postprocessing.

(500) Days of Summer

What if you meet somebody, fall head over heels in love, but then the one you love doesn't want it to be that serious. That's the story of (500) Days of Summer, a non-linear movie about the 500 days that Tom has known Summer. The atmosphere of the movie is great. There are lots of drawn parts, funny scenes and split screens that make the movie more than just ordinary. On top of that the soundtrack is great! The Smiths, Regina Spektor, The Temper Trap, Wolfmother, etc.

If you want to see a movie that isn't just an ordinary love story, that isn't too heavy but still very entertaining, you should definitely watch (500) Days of Summer!

Music in the Spotlight #10

The Boxer Rebellion is a very unknown band. The cause is most of all bad luck: the singer, Nathan Nicholson had a burst appendix while they would be touring with The Killers and their record label imploded. Now they are financing everything themselves.

Their latest album 'Union' has made them quite known in the USA, but in Europe they are still quite unknown. They deserve more attention, so I'm doing my bit. Hope you enjoy it!

Hurray! This is my 150th blog post! And what a coincidence that it's the 10th Music in the Spotlight. Hope you are all still visiting my blog with pleasure and have enjoyed reading the previous 150 posts!

The new layout isn't quite finished yet, but I'm wondering what you think of it. Is it a keeper?

Fairytale at Lowlands

This was definitely my highlight of Lowlands. Jonsi's performance was a fairytale from the first second to the last one. Goose bumps! Too bad I can't seem to find a live video of Grow Till Tall, that song was magnificent. Edit: Sander found a live video, not from Lowlands, but same song, same projection, same goose bumps!

Best birthday ever!

Vacation 2010

Blog status in August: 0 posts. Zero, nada, none. Shall I give you a little update of the past months?

July
July started with a few relaxing days at home. After that I went to Rock Werchter, which is the largest festival of Belgium. We were there for one day and it was awesome! Spending an entire day listening to bands you love, with people you love, in lovely weather is great!

After Rock Werchter we, that is my best friend and I, drove to the Dordogne in France. We stayed with her parents for about a week and a half. We saw and did a lot of things, we went canoeing on the Dordogne, we walked through a beautiful landscape, we visited a castle, a garden and lots of other things. Was a great start of our trip!

Then our roadtrip really started. We drove to Chinon, a place near the Loire and the Vienna. There was a huge castle which was completed this year. There was a festive opening on the days we were there. That included fireworks, an amazing lightshow and an orchestra. And the next day the entrance to the castle was free!

After Chinon we had an impulsive idea to go to Paris and ask our boyfriends if they could join us. It so happened that everyone was able to come and we could spent about 4 days in the City of Love! Those were some amazing days, I love Paris! I especially love Montmartre, with its little streets and shops that sell beautiful vintage postcards, posters etc. We also visited the Louvre, which was amazing! I have never seen such a huge and beautiful museum.

Our last stop was the Ardennes. Unfortunately we had a lot of rain, so after a few days we decided to go home.

Photos of our trip are on my facebook page (friends-only) and some of them are on flickr.

August
August has so far been a month full of trips! On the start of August I went to Friesland (a province in the Netherlands) with my aunts, mother and sister. It was a lovely trip filled with a lot of coffee on terraces, sailboats and laughter.

After that I went to Delft with the boyfriend. We watched a lot of episodes of How I met Your Mother (best sitcom ever!) and movies, we went to IMAX to see Inception, we went to the beach and even swam in the North Sea, we went shopping and had a whole lot of fun together! On top of that we went to the grand finale of the International Fireworks Festival at Scheveningen. I have never seen such amazing fireworks before. Click here to see the fireworks from the Netherlands.

And there will be another trip in August: next weekend I will be at Lowlands Festival, volunteering for Converse. Whoa, awesome vacation!
