When the Night Comes
I had a request from the lovely Sifra for some new music. Here's a beautiful ballad from Dan Auerbach, the guitarist and vocalist from The Black Keys.

Blog Silence
Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines and an exam. I don't think I will have much spare time for blogging. I will be back!

Explorer of the World
explore, originally uploaded by the notebook doodles.
When I think about later, I think about travelling. I have aways been amazed by all the beauty that's on our planet and I can't wait to discover a lot of beautiful places myself. My greatest wish is to visit Australia and New Zealand. I have heard stories from friends, seen movies that were filmed in those countries and have seen travel programs visiting the other side of the world. And ever since I am drawn to anything that's linked to Australia or New Zealand.
But there's so much more beauty in the world. Every continent, every country has it's attractive spots. Sometimes I forget that even my own country is full of beauty. There are so many places that I haven't discovered yet. That's the reason why I want to visit every single capital city of the provinces of the Netherlands. Of course I have seen some cities, but never from the vision of a tourist. I want to see, feel and taste the cities. I want to explore them.
Exploring isn't something that has to be done in far and exotic places. It can also take place in your hometown, your neighborhood, even in your own house! You can see the world with a different view, like you are seeing something for the very first time. Remember what you were like when you were a little child? You discovered new things and investigated them with amazement. While growing up we seem to loose that attitude. Keri Smith is someone who encourages you to find the child inside yourself. She encourages you to explore, to see all the everything as something interesting and worth documenting and to become and explorer of the world.
How to be an explorer of the world
1. Always be looking.
(Notice the ground beneath your feet.)
2. Consider everything alive & animate.
3. Everything is interesting.
Look closer.
4. Alter your course often.
5. Observe for long durations
(and short ones.)
6. Notice the stories going on around you.
7. Notice patterns, make connections.
8. Document your findings (field notes)
in a variety of ways.
9. Incorporate indeterminacy.
10. Observe movement.
11. Create a personal dialogue with your environment.
Talk to it.
12. Trace things back to their origins.
13. Use all of the senses in your investigations.
Excerpt from How to be an Explorer of the World
I dare you (and myself) to follow this advice. To explore what may seem familiar and uninteresting. To see the world through the eyes of a little child. To watch the world in amazement.
And I highly recommend any book from Keri Smith. Especially How to be an Explorer of the World.

Brief
Liefste
Ik zou zo graag willen dat
Er weer eens een brief viel op mijn mat
Van papier, in een envelop
Met mijn naam en adres erop
Een echte brief, niet digitaal
In gewone mensentaal
Die ik in een laadje kan bewaren
Zodat ik dan, na jaren
Nog eens na kan lezen dat
jij mij zo hebt liefgehad
X

Love for Flow and Praktica
Mosaic, originally uploaded by dreamdancer90.
I am so in love with my new camera! It's almost the same as the one Marjolein bought. And what I love most of all is the fact that there was an old and used film in it, can't wait to see those pictures! Am afraid that the result will be a bit overexposed, but that could make it even more interesting!
Yesterday I was as happy as a little child! I have been reading Flow Magazine for a while now, I started buying the magazine when the second issue came out. I immediately fell in love with it! A few weeks ago I decided to subscribe and yesterday I found the latest issue in my mailbox!
I think every country should have its own Flow Magazine, it's gorgeous!
There are some downloads on the website of Flow Magazine. They may be in Dutch, but that shouldn't be much of a problem!
PS. The cover of Flow says:
'Je kan alleen tijd verspillen als je vergeet ervan te genieten'
Loesje (1983)
Translation:
'You can only waste time if you forget to enjoy it'
This is exactly why I love Flow so much.

Rob Ryan
Roby Ryan is a brilliant artist. He makes papercuts with beautiful flowers, birds, stars and lovely pieces of text. First he draws the illustrations on thin bible paper. Then he cuts them with his assistent. After that they spray a color on it. It's all coming from one piece of paper, so everything in the papercut is connected. Amazing right? I can't imagine the amount of patience this man must have. And I am so in love with his art. And so is the rest of the world apparently: he created things for Vogue, Liberty and many other magazines, designers and companies.
You should pay a visit to his website! And I really really really want his little book called 'This Is For You'.

Music in the Spotlight #9
The Veils is a band formed around lead singer and songwriter Finn Andrews. The formation of the rest of the band is changing quite often. But that doesn't influence the sound of the band, characterized by Finn's remarkable voice. His voice is not comparable to any other singer in the world and that differentiates them from any other band.
The first song is probably my favorite song ever.
The Leavers Dance from the album 'The Runaway Found' (2004)
Not Yet from the album 'Nux Vomica' (2006)
Note from the Universe #12
In the end, Lianne, not that there really is an end, it's ALL going to be about how much you smiled, how much you laughed, and how much you enjoyed your life.
Right now,
The Universe

Always with Me
I just found the translated lyrics from the ending of the great movie Spirited Away. Beautiful! Needed to share this!
(Score from the movie Spirited Away)
Somewhere, a voice calls, in the depths of my heart
May I always be dreaming, the dreams that move my heart
So many tears of sadness, uncountable through and through
I know on the other side of them I'll find you
Every time we fall down to the ground we look up to the blue sky above
We wake to it's blueness, as for the first time
Though the road is long and lonely and the end far away, out of sight
I can with these two arms embrace the light
As I bid farewell my heart stops, in tenderness I feel
My silent empty body begins to listen to what is real
The wonder of living, the wonder of dying
The wind, town, and flowers, we all dance one unity
Somewhere a voice calls in the depths of my heart
Keep dreaming your dreams, don't ever let them part
Why speak of all your sadness or of life's painful woes
Instead let the same lips sing a gentle song for you
The whispering voice, we never want to forget,
In each passing memory always there to guide you
When a mirror has been broken, shattered pieces scattered on the ground
Glimpses of new life, reflected all around
Window of beginning, stillness, new light of the dawn
Let my silent, empty body be filled and reborn
No need to search outside, nor sail across the sea
Cause here shining inside me, it's right here inside me
I've found a brightness, it's always with me

Mascquerade
Mosaic, originally uploaded by dreamdancer90.
The Venetian Carnival was intended as a time of celebration and expression throughout the different social classes. You can't recognize who's behind a mask, so you can't take distance from each other because of such a random thing as a social class. Great thought right?
I'm wondering what it would be like to join the one and only true Venetian Carnival. I think it would be kind of weird to not be able to show any expression or to recognize any other people. Just being amazed by other people's outfits and masks, and just party and have fun for twelve days.
I already have my mask, who will join me?

A Beautiful Gift
My Peacetree, the lovely blog from Ingrid, had its first birthday last month! In honor of that Ingrid hosted a lot of giveaways. Guess who won something for the first time ever?!
Some time ago this little package arrived and I think I jumped up and down like a little child! It's the very first time I won something and this one is very special. For quite some time now I have been thinking of starting an art journal, but my courage abandoned me. Ingrid is the one who motivated me to just go for it and start. I haven't started this project yet, but this nice little journal is the opportunity I have been waiting for!
Now I need to find the courage and just start. But I will try soon, I promise!
Thank you so much dear Ingrid!

Note from the Universe #11
I have been neglecting my blog during May. I hope I will find some time for blogging during June, which is full of deadlines. I will try my hardest, dear readers!
When you say "me," "myself," or "I," Lianne, do you remember to think of yourself as an intergalactic, supernatural, indomitable, unstoppable, joy-bound, on-fire gladiator of love... matador of illusions... and supercoolhappylovething?
Good.
The force is with you,
The Universe
