Blog Silence

There will be a temporary silence here. Because of all the drama the past months I wasn't in the mood to keep up with studying. There will be some tests from hell next week, so I need to focus 200% right now.

I'm looking forward to the next period, to start over again. I hope this time without the drama.

Let it go

Found on weheartit.com
The past months haven't been nice ones.
But I think it's about time to clear my heart and let all the drama go..

The Fun Theory

The Fun Theory: that is such an awesome initiative! The theory is that when you make something more fun to do, more people will actually do it. An example is the Piano Stairs.

The website says:

”Take the stairs instead of the escalator or elevator and feel better” is something we often hear or read in the Sunday papers. Few people actually follow that advice. Can we get more people to take the stairs over the escalator by making it fun to do? See the results here

Now watch this video:

Apparently it works! Would be nice to have piano playing stairs in the Netherlands!

Where the Wild Things Are

Do you remember any books from your childhood? Of course I remember Jip en Janneke, de GVR and Pluk van de Petteflet, that's obvious. But one book slipped my mind... That was until I saw a trailer of a new movie: Where the Wild Things Are.

It all seemed so familiar. So I started searching and searching. And there it was:

Max en de Maximonsters (aka Where the Wild Things Are)!

Oh yes, I do remember this book! I remember borrowing it from the library when I was very little. I loved that book!

In January the movie will be in the Dutch cinemas. The trailer makes me really curious, it gives me the chills! (When the beautiful music from Arcade Fire is featured in a trailer I'm already sold)

WTJ update #1

Finally I started wrecking my journal. My very first beginning was with 'fill this page with circles'.
Decorating this page was fun, but it isn't wrecking right?

So I started BURNING! 'Burn this page' was the challenge. And it burned indeed. A bit too fast actually, so the shower-challenge is partly done too ;)
Then I decided to do one of the hardest things: 'Tear out this page. Accept the loss'. Accepting the loss is not so easy.
Step 1: I teared it out.
But then: since it's already out of the journal, why not take it to the next level:
So step 2: I burned it to ash!
And it burned way too quickly! It almost was a done deal when I tried to take a picture.
Never could have thought it would be so hard to wreck something.

Just Be

Oh so beautiful. Sometimes I will post some of the beautiful quotes and poetry I stumble upon. Just so I can read and think about them over and over again.

Music in the Spotlight #1

Sometimes I stumble upon beautiful music. I don't know the artist of this song, I never heard the song before.. But it made a big impression on me the first time I was listening to it. There are lots of different tones, but together they sound amazing.

This category will be filled with all the nice music I find. Music was, is and always will be a very important matter in my life, so it just has to be featured on my blog.

Enjoy!

Nike presents 'Onwards'

I like this Nike commercial! The first minute has no music and might be a bit boring, but the rest of the video makes up for it. The cartoon is by James Jarvis, he makes very loveable drawings by the way!

The change to night at about 3.40 is very beautiful! Love how the stars seem to pop out of the sky.

Let there be postcards!

I love to get mail. Not e-mail, but real paper mail. Too bad I don't get much of that. Most of the mail that falls on my doorstep is from uninteresting organizations who want something from me. The only exception is on my birthday, then I get some real paper postcards. I'm thinking to myself, why not send postcards more often than once a year?

Today I found a website called postcrossing. The thought behind this website is to send random people postcards. Everytime you send a postcard, you will receive a postcard too. So you will receive postcards from people you don't know from all over the world. How awesome is that!

I'm gonna go and buy a postcard this afternoon. It's for a girl from Germany. I hope she's going to like it!

By the way: these are some postcards I bought in Paris. Love the black and white with some coloured details. I'm not going to send these, they are memories of my weekend at Paris. I am going to buy a few postcards in every country or city I visit, just for the memories.

By the way, don't you love our carpet! It's in every picture I posted on this blog! :P

To create is to destroy

It was painful, but I did it. I actually deleted all my older posts. All my reviews, the music I like, memories of beautiful moments: gone, completely gone. It might sound strange, but it's actually
kind of a relief. Now I'm really ready for a new and fresh start. Now this is post #two in stead of post #fifty-something.

Here it is, my very own Wreck This Journal. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, especially when it comes to books. When I have read a book, it looks the same as when I bought it.
One of the first pages in the book says:
'Warning: During the process of this book you will get dirty. You may find yourself covered in paint, or any other number of foreign substances. You will get wet. You may be asked to do things you question. You may grieve for the perfect state that you found the book in. You may begin to see creative destruction everywhere. You may begin to live more recklessly.'

I will have to shower with my book, I will have to tear out pages, I will have to burn pages.. I don't like that at all, in fact it scares me! I'm afraid I will ruin it, but that's exactly what the book is for. When you wreck something, you may create something beautiful. I want to loosen up, I want to live more recklessly. I hope I will find a new kind of creativity in myself.

Yesterday I found a notebook. I got it for my birthday last year.
Got to love the title: Time for happy thoughts. Think the rest of the book doesn't fit with the title, so I'm gonna decorate it. A bit like WTJ (Wreck This Journal), but then with a real journal.

It's time for happy thoughts. What could be a better quote for new beginnings, a fresh start. Bring it on!

Change

It's time for a change. This blog has been bleeding to death, but I'm going to stop the bleeding right now. All the old posts are gone. Not completely gone, I simply couldn't do that, but not visible anymore.

Today I had tons of new ideas. There's so much inspiration on the world wide web. I'm inspired to try new things, make new things, do new things and write new things. I'm ready for a fresh start, so everything is going to change in this blog. The layout, the categories, the content, even the language in which I write. About that last change, I don't know why I'm doing that, but it just feels right.

Change, change, change.. I'm ready!
